Propane Gas

Properties Of Propane LPG Gas

Propane Gas is a lpg fuel that comprises a gas that has been compressed into a transportable fuel. This cost effective type of energy is derived from petroleum products during gas and oil processing.

Available for commercial as well as leisure use propane bottled gas is available for consumption in both bulk tank form as well as in metal cylinders / bottles.

This type of lpg fuel is commonly used as a fuel source in engines, portable heaters, refrigeration products, cooking equipment such as portable cookers, grills, and stoves, medium and large sized barbeques, and for a wide range of other uses including residential central heating where there is no natural gas supply. Propane gas is also used in the roofing and building industry where it is the fuel type of choice for powering felting torches and asphalt burners.

For portable applications this type of lpg is stored in heavy duty metal cylinders (often referred to as bottles) where the fuel inside is a liquid which has a vapor space above. The vapor pressure above the fuel fluctuates depending on the temperture both inside and outside the cylinder as well as the rate the gas is drawn off.

As the gas is used the bottle will begin to cool and sometimes this can be seen visibly by way of condensation and water droplets on the outside metal casings. This temperture change both inside and outside the cylinder affects the gas ignition properties as the cylinder runs down. The propane gas vaporizes as soon as it leaves the metal cylinder as it has a very low boiling point (around -42 degrees centigrade).

Propane liquid gas is used throughout the world in both commercial and domestic environments. It is also replacing oil and wood type traditional fuels in non commecialised areas where it is known as a cooking gas.
In these environments the gas is stored on site in a bulk container or alternatively by way of bottles.

In the Uk there are several leading distributors of this type of fuel. The most popular ones being altagas, calor, energas, and flogas. These distributors have appointed agents and dealers located at most Cities and towns in the Uk, Scotland, and Wales.

There are also several key outlets based in Yorkshire located at Leeds, Normanton (near to Wakefield), Eckington (close to Chesterfield), and Sheffield on the South Yorkshire / Derbyshire border.
